Soteriology – The Study of Salvation – Eternal Security

In this Blog I want to say that our salvation cannot be lost.

Let’s dive into some verses I hope will illustrate this.

God’s Grace

Ephesians 2:8-9New Living Translation (NLT)

8 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.

This means no human effort was involved in your coming to Christ. It was the gift of God lest anyone should boast.

John 3:18“ He who believes in Him (Jesus) is not judged;”

John 5:24 “24 “I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life.

Once saved you won't be judged for your sins is what this verse is saying. That is not to say God won't discipline you, because He will as any good father does. ( See Hebrews 12 for more on this).

Ephesians 1:5 God Adopted us! We Are Now His Children!

5 God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.

Since we have a relationship with God who is our Father it is the relationship that doesn't change.

We will always be His children.

Jesus is The Reason We Are Saved

1 John 5:11-12New Living Translation (NLT)

11 And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life.

Our Best Isn’t Nearly Good Enough

Isaiah 64:6 We are all infected and impure with sin.

When we display our righteous deeds,

they are nothing but filthy rags.

This means salvation can’t be about us or our actions. On our best days our righteousness is as filthy rags to God!

Romans 8: 31-39

Nothing Can Separate Us from God’s Love

31 What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? 32 Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else? 33 Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself. 34 Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us.

35 Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? 36 (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”[o]) 37 No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.

38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[p] neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

This means you don't have the power to separate yourself from God's love!
